UIC employs one of the most talented and hard-working teams in development, construction, and design, and we take on projects at all scales from home remodels to large commercial projects. We bring the skills and passion to everything we do, finding exceptional solutions for all projects through our creativity and resourcefulness.
Chief Executive Officer
As CEO of UIC, I have oversight over all of our business units and focus a good deal of my time on development and real estate investments. I am a licensed architect and received a Master of Excellence in Architecture from the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University. Prior to co-founding UIC, I was fortunate to work with some exceptional architects and firms including Zaha Hadid, MVRDV, DSDHA, Mitchell/Giurgola Architects and Cannon Design. I do my best to be active in the community and serve as a council member on the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and a board member of the Luminary Center for the Arts. Outside of work, my passion is spending (non-work) time with my wife and partner Sarah and our three daughters, including coaching their youth soccer teams.
As the Design Principal at UIC, I have designed and built everything from a small renovation to a neighborhood – and I enjoy working at all of these scales. One might say I get a little too excited about selecting cabinet hardware and a beautiful plumbing fixtures, but I am equally enthusiastic about the prospect of engineering a beautiful / sustainable/ functional workplace, home, climbing gym... or envisioning an urban framework for a square mile of the city. Each of these design problems requires vision through a creative lens in order to imagine not just beautiful spaces, but how they will be built, how they will age, and how they will be funded. These multi-scaled and multi-faceted problems make my heart go pitter-patter – as do my three multi-scaled and multi-faceted daughters who test the elasticity of my creativity daily. See...everything is a design problem!
Additional to these passions, I suppose I should also mention that I would not be so excited about design had I not had the amazing opportunities to explore the Western Hemisphere with my partner, Brent, and had the chance to work with some great architects at The Office For Metropolitan Architecture in the Netherlands, The Polshek Partnership in New York, and The HOK Planning Group (St. Louis). I also teach graduate and undergraduate design studios at Washington University in St. Louis.
Bill Rombach, VP
Chief Operations Officer
At UIC, I manage workflow and projects through the integrated design/build companies, ensuring projects successfully meet and exceed expectations on all levels. Utilizing 14 years of experience in development, general contracting and homebuilding, I have the privilege of working with the most talented designers, construction managers, and innovative clients, in collaborative ways that take projects to the next level.
Only second to my passion for construction and development is my passion for teambuilding, and encouraging others to outperform their own expectations, and feel that my success is directly a product of others’ success here at UIC. Outside of the office, I spend all of my time with my wife April, twin daughters, and 2 sons. Never is there a dull moment, and we commonly can be seen around town at the Botanical Gardens, Butterfly house, at the farm or tubing on the lake.
At UIC I function in a variety of roles as President and Designer for the REFINE division. I work directly with homeowners to assist in all facets of residential renovation and construction. Originally from Kansas, I graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia, then skipped town to head to NYC where I attended Parsons School of Design and was employed as a visual and interior designer by Baker Furniture. Since moving back to St. Louis in 2007, I have been working in the city as a residential designer at Niche Home Furnishings + Design for Lawrence Group. Outside of the office, I spend as much of my time playing as possible via cycling, hiking, running, laying in hammocks and frequenting playgrounds with my, er, energetic son. Currently, I’m surviving my own home renovation and look forward to having an urban farm in my backyard in the near future.
Brad is an experienced licensed architect with strong design sensibilities and project management skills. With a diverse background in multiple market segments and a variety of offices, he is adept at moving seamlessly between multiple roles. With strengths in developing and detailing other people’s concepts and determining how to make the beautiful buildable, Brad is able to lead teams and work alongside them to ensure the best product deliverable is achieved.
I am a visual creature. Happily, I have found my habitat at UIC. For me, joining the passionate and incredibly focused team at UIC is synchronistic because it revolves around all-things visual and progressive. I am a native St. Louisan who has lived on both coasts. I was drawn to the innovation and —sorry to use this word again, but— vision of UIC. I bring dynamic experience to the firm from biotech sales to product design to entrepreneurship and art direction. Blending these disciplines together to promote contemporary urban design and bring modernity to the heart of St. Louis is not only a daily thrill, but an honor. Other thrills in my life include the adventure of parenting, the addiction of Netflix-ing Fixer Upper, and any combo of running, yoga, soccer, cruising around on my beach bike or defying gravity through aerial arts and the shear will to fly!
I’m a project manager at UIC, and love being a part of our homebuilding team and working with some of our other design-build developments. Originally from south central Missouri, I received a civil engineering degree from the University of Missouri - Rolla, and have lived and worked in St. Louis for 15 years since. I maintain a professional engineer’s license and enjoy finding new solutions to the challenges that inevitably arise when one digs a hole or opens a wall. My background is exclusively design-build construction, with management experience in industrial/office/training facilities, cold storage warehouses, rehabilitation of historic school buildings, and structural concrete. I love working with people that laugh, and where there are sweet things to eat. Speaking of sweet things, I have a daughter that’s into singing, acting, and soccer, and a cool wife that makes me smile and feeds me well, as long as I do a good job renovating our 105 year old Tower Grove home. Outside home life I stay busy with my church, work with various service organizations, coach ultra-non-competitive youth soccer, and attempt to read impressive books with easy words.
I joined the UIC team at the beginning of 2014 as the Office Manager and Assistance to the CFO and am looking forward to many years of working together. I was born and raised in St. Louis and attended Cleveland High School. My continued education was through seminars and job experience, more than 30 years of office experience in bookkeeping, banking and accounting. I am a wife of 31 years, mother of 3, and grandmother of 1 grand-daughter. I am a member of Czech Society of America and the SOKOL Organization, where we give back to the communities in South St. Louis and surrounding areas.
Residential Customer Service
As Contract Administrator and Customer Service rep for UIC, I have the benefit of working with our customers before, during and after the construction process. A good portion of my time is spent preparing and coordinating the flow of documents throughout the building process. This allows opportunities for me to meet with our customers, providing a nice transition into my Customer Service role where I am the direct point of contact for warranty and service needs. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from St. Louis University and worked in my family’s construction company for thirty years prior to joining UIC in November, 2013. My free time is occupied volunteering at my church and spending time with my husband and our three children...ideally on skis.
Development Project Manager
As a Project Manager for the Development Team at UIC, I conduct the cost certification process for Historic Tax Credits and NPA Tax Credits. I spend the majority of my time analyzing numbers and documents for outside auditors. I was born and raised in South City, love the neighborhoods, architecture and the people. My love for the city guided me to St. Louis University, where I earned my degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Finance. Soon after graduating, I obtained my Real Estate License and starting working for The Kroenke Group as a Commercial Real Estate Analyst. My time at The Kroenke Group allowed me to create connections and learn some of the ins and outs of real estate. Outside of work, I enjoy cycling, playing soccer, watching the Premier League (Come on you Toffees!), and enjoying friendly banter with friends.
As a Project Manager at UIC, I spend a majority of my time overseeing active projects and making sure that they come in on time and on budget. I also enjoy looking at new jobs and estimating them. I have had the pleasure of working on both the residential and commercial side of project management in both the US and in Europe. After spending over five years in Italy on the restoration of century-old farmhouses as well as the restoration of a century-old castle into a boutique hotel, I returned to St. Louis and worked on a $30 million plus LEED-Platinum Upper School expansion for Mary Institute Country Day School (MICDS). While working overseas, I earned a master’s degree in Project Management from The University of Reading England. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children.
As an Architectural Designer, I assist in the design and output of projects ranging from residential to commercial renovations and new constructions. I joined UIC in 2014 ago after receiving a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Architecture and a minor in Urban Design from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to joining UIC, I spent several summers interning with Incite Architecture in the Boston area, and working with the Boston Redevelopment Authority on the mayor’s E+ Green Building Initiative. Outside of work I enjoy anything active, from running to snowboarding. I am also excited to explore new ways of becoming active in the St. Louis community following my time at Washington U. where I was lucky to work with amazing students and kids at the City Faces after-school program and the Alberti- Architecture for Young People program.
As a commercial superintendent I manage the construction process on site. I coordinate sub-contractors and ensure a smooth construction process. I love going to work knowing that everyday has a different set of challenges. When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife and two kids. I enjoy trying new restaurants, mountain biking, hiking and camping.
As Field Coordinator at UIC, I have the unique opportunity to help support the efforts of a dedicated team of architects, designers, and talented carpenters in the field. Providing logistics and equipment requisitions for Blackbird Construction, I get to help keep the ball moving forward. Here, I have the privilege of seeing the city transform each day into something new. After completing an MFA at Memphis College of Art, I packed by bags and moved to St Louis where my wife and two dogs have endeavored to breathe new life into a tiny old Tower Grove Victorian home. In my free time, I enjoy buying and selling vintage books.
As Superintendent at UIC my job is to make sure our residential projects run smooth and on time. I do this by drafting a schedule for each project and coordinating each step with our subcontractors to maintain that schedule. I have been a union carpenter for 27 years building track homes, custom homes, historic renovations, and commercial buildings. I enjoy meeting new people and love the relationships that are formed both professionally and personally in my position. I have a wonderful wife, 3 beautiful daughters, and 2 dogs. I love my time with them, which includes Jeep rides, camping, coaching softball, hunting and watching the St. louis Cardinals.
